SERF demolition: Out with the old, in with the new

Construction crews this week started demolishing the Southeast Recreational Facility (SERF) to make way for a larger, more modern recreational facility that will open during the 2019-2020 school year. The SERF, which opened in 1983, closed permanently on Aug. 18. The closure comes as part of the Rec Sports Master Plan to build larger recreational facilities to accommodate the fitness needs of a growing campus.

The SERF was the most visited recreational facility on campus, welcoming up to 6,000 students and members each day for a variety of activities. To accommodate them, Rec Sports has created a transition plan in place until the new facility opens.
