Over the past several years, Project Delivery has focused on creating a means to collectively evaluate, develop, and describe the intentions of the University of Wisconsin-Madison’s Campus. The Campus Design Guide is a means to address those issues and is offered as a tool to understand Campus in more detail.
The guide is organized into five major sections: history of campus, design mission, campus layout, detailed index of the buildings and landscapes, and a brief introduction to the campus design review process.
Our goal is to clearly define what makes the UW-Madison campus sustainable, functional, and beautiful. Through these definitions, we hope to create a campus environment that encourages student success and strengthens connections that create a stronger sense of place. The Campus Design Guide was created for, but is not limited to, designers, stakeholders, and the campus community.
As many have observed, the axis of the Campus is at an angle with State Street on the east. Many have regretted this, and the architect, not being able to move mountains, have accepted the situation, and promise a dignified and adequate entrance to the campus at the intersection of State and Park streets.
